A nerd's question

alright - so this is a supreme nerd's question but I have to ask:

Wouldn't it have been more efficient tactically speaking, if the Death Star used its tractor beam to hold incoming ships completely still and fire on it with it's 10 bigazillion turbolasers? Or its planet destroying beam?
