Death and Destruction
Last weekend at jtree, my friend Jon fell 20 ft onto his back while *sorta* climbing. He thought he was on belay and leaned back on the rope to be lowered 20' to extend the climb - mind you, he wasn't even climbing yet. Airlifted out to a hospital and *walked* out the next day. Friggin miraculous if you ask me.
I had to cut the weekend short to see him at the hospital and drive his girlfriend home on Sunday. I was feeling down about the entire episode till my friend theresa calls me to tell me that my neighborhood was on fire. Sure enough, there was a brush fire less than 2 miles from my apartment. I probably could have seen the fire if it weren't for a ridge blocking my view. Fortunately, the fire was traveling *away* from me so no evac's were called for where I lived.
Then I heard my buddy Adam, on his way home from jtree, saw a car flipped over on the freeway. He helped a family of four while paramedics were on the way.
I yeah - I forgot to mention that I saw the foothills of San Jacinto burning and watched as fire fighters tried to put out a burning car on the freeway this weekend.
This was soooo not my weekend. I'm going to get drunk now...
